Leica-R (Cinescope TLS Rehousing)

The Leica-R lenses rehoused by TLS (True Lens Services) – Cinescope configuration combine the renowned optical quality of Leica R photographic lenses with precision-engineered cinema housings designed for professional motion picture production.

Originally developed for Leica’s 35mm still photography system, these lenses provide full frame coverage (36 × 24 mm) and offer a generous image circle suitable for a wide range of modern digital cinema cameras.

Thanks to this coverage, Leica-R optics can be used on many high-resolution large-format sensors, including cameras such as the RED Weapon 8K Helium, with several focal lengths also covering VistaVision-sized sensors.

The lenses retain the characteristic Leica image signature, known for its natural color reproduction, balanced contrast, and refined tonal transitions.

Through the TLS Cinescope rehousing, the original optics are integrated into a completely redesigned cinema housing.

The lenses feature a cam-driven focus system that provides precise, repeatable focus operation with zero backlash and minimal image shift.

This design also enables accurate dual focus scales and a wider spread of focus markings for improved focus pulling on set.

The chassis-style lens housing allows matte boxes and other front-mounted accessories to be attached without affecting focus movement.

In addition, the complete mechanical redesign improves the close-focus capability across the set, enhancing versatility for modern cinematography.

Constructed using aluminium alloy, stainless steel, and brass, the TLS rehousing provides robust durability and long-term serviceability, making the Leica-R (Cinescope TLS Rehousing) lenses a reliable cinema-ready platform that combines classic Leica optics with modern mechanical engineering.
